SIDEBAR: Feigl Continues Dominance as Rebels Even Series

OXFORD, Miss. -- Junior Brady Feigl added another emphatic performance to his 2018 resume, while the Rebel bats came out in full force as No. 6 Ole Miss downed Tennessee by a score of 7-1. The Rebels evened the series with the Volunteers, who took Game 1 on Friday, and will be set for the rubber match taking place Sunday at noon CT.
Feigl was dominant from the start, going 6.1 innings with nine strikeouts compared to just one walk, to improve to 5-0 on the year. He stifled the Volunteer hitters to just four hits and one run that came on a solo shot in the fifth inning. The Saturday starter picked up his fifth straight win, having earned a victory in each appearance this year.
While Feigl kept Tennessee silent, the Rebel bats were on full display as they combined for seven runs on 12 hits, their third consecutive double-digit hit game. Junior Jacob Adams had a career day at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles at opportune times and his first career three-RBI game.
Grae Kessinger also continued his tear over the weekend, adding another three hits on the day to improve his line to 6-of-9 against Volunteer pitchers over the first two games combined. Tim Rowe, in his first game back in the starting lineup in a while, went 2-for-3 at the plate to double his season total in hits.
The Rebels got off to a hot start and, unlike yesterday, they did not relent. Five of Feigl's first six outs recorded were strikeouts, en route to his nine strikeout day. The Saturday starter entered the day ranking in the top twenty nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio and will again find himself near the top of the NCAA and SEC charts.
Feigl remained flawless on the mound save for one miscue in the fifth that resulted in Tennessee's lone run of the day, a solo home run to right. The Chesterfield, Missouri, native even managed to work around a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the sixth with a fly out and a 4-6-3 double play.
At the plate, the Rebels scored often and early, beginning in the second inning. Tyler Keenan reached on a two-out walk before Rowe booted him over with his first single of the day. Adams brought them both home on an RBI double to the right field corner, before ultimately reaching third on an E9.
The Rebels added another just an inning later, following Kessinger's second hit in three innings, and an overturned call that resulted in Kessinger being called safe on a steal from first. Ryan Olenek sent him to third on a sacrifice bunt before Thomas Dillard drove him home on an RBI groundout to make the score 3-0.
The fourth inning featured an identical hit from the bat of Adams, and it came at an advantageous time for the Rebels. Rowe and Cole Zabowski each reached on a single, while Tyler Keenan took one off the hip to load the bases for Adams, who delivered with a two-RBI double to right. Kessinger would bring home Rowe on an RBI groundout, and the Rebels didn't look back.
They would score once more, in the sixth inning, on a Kessinger double to the wall that scored Adams, and secure the 7-1 victory.
Ole Miss evened the series with the Volunteers and will be all set for the rubber match occurring tomorrow at noon with James McArthur on the mound. The game time was moved up from its original 1:30 p.m. time due to a threat of rain later in the afternoon.
