Ole Miss Ranked in USA TODAY's Preseason Top 25

OXFORD, Miss. - With college baseball's opening day just 22 days away, preseason polls continue to be released by national media outlets. On Thursday, it was the coaches turn to release their preseason poll, and the Ole Miss Rebels will begin the 2017 campaign at No. 24 in the USA TODAY Sports Top 25.

Ole Miss is one of six SEC teams ranked in the coaches' poll. The Rebels are ranked in three different preseason polls with their highest spot at No. 8 by Perfect Game as well as No. 22 by Collegiate Baseball.

Ole Miss will play seven games against the top three teams in the poll, facing off against preseason No. 1 TCU (March 5) to go along with road series at No. 2 Florida (May 5-7) and at No. 3 LSU (April 13-15). The Rebels will face a total of seven teams in the top 25, starting with No. 10 East Carolina at Swayze Field to begin the season (Feb. 17-19). No. 6 Vanderbilt (March 17-9) and No. 20 Texas A&M (May 12-14) will also make trips to Oxford.

Along with battling the top-ranked Horned Frogs in Houston, Ole Miss will play No. 19 Texas Tech there as well (March 4). Both games are part of the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros.

The Rebels will begin preparation for the 2017 season with its first practice Friday (Jan. 27) at 2:30 p.m., playing an intrasquad scrimmage at Swayze Field. The team will also hold another intrasquad contest Saturday morning (Jan. 28) beginning at 10:45 a.m. All Ole Miss intrasquad scrimmages are open to the public.

The Rebels will open the 2017 season at home versus ECU (Feb. 17-19), which is ranked as high as No. 6 by Baseball America and is led by former Ole Miss assistant coach Cliff Godwin. The series begins Friday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. from Swayze Field.
