Woolfolk Tabbed to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List
Feb. 12, 2018

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss junior closer Dallas Woolfolk has been named to the preseason watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award, the organization announced Monday. This marks the third-straight year for a Rebel to be on the list for the award given annually to the top relief pitcher in Division I Baseball.

Woolfolk, already named a Preseason All-American by four different outlets – NCBWA, Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and D1Baseball – enters his junior campaign as one of the top relievers nationally, therefore landing him a spot on the prestigious watch list. He is one of 52 players on the list and one of eight from the Southeastern Conference.

The Southaven, Mississippi, native is the third Rebel in as many years to appear on the watch list after now senior Will Stokes was on it last year. In 2016, southpaw Wyatt Short made the preseason and midseason lists’ as the closer.

Woolfolk is coming off a dominant 2017 campaign in which he finished one off the school’s single-season record in saves with 12. He led the team in appearances with 26, all in relief, totaling a 2.15 ERA and 3-2 record on the mound. The righty struck out 41 and held opposing hitters to a .200 clip in 37.2 innings of action.

Following his dominant 2017 year, Woolfolk was selected to the Team USA Collegiate National Team, where he recorded a 0.87 ERA in ten appearances, including the closing inning in the 41st USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series.
