OXFORD, Miss. – Senior catcher Will Allen has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for the opening weekend of play, the league office announced on Tuesday with the release of the weekly awards.
Allen hit .545 for the weekend with two home runs and 10 RBI through 11 at bats to help Ole Miss pick up an opening-weekend sweep of Stetson on the road.
The senior started the weekend off with an RBI and helped lead the Rebels to a 7-0 victory over the Hatters in the season-opener on Friday night. He then caught fire at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBI on Saturday afternoon with a three-run home run and a two-RBI double.
In Sunday’s finale, Allen continued to hit at a torrid pace with a 3-for-4 performance and four RBI to help the Rebels cap the sweep of Stetson.
