Bobby Wahl struck out eight in a complete-game shutout of Tennessee on Friday night.
April 22, 2013
OXFORD, Miss. – Junior right-hander Bobby Wahl was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday by the league office following his complete-game shutout of Tennessee over the weekend.
The complete-game was the first of Wahl’s career as he set the table for the Rebels to pick up a series sweep of the Volunteers. It was the third shutout of the season for the junior, who combined to post shutout wins over then No. 12 TCU to open the season and No. 22 Alabama a week earlier.
In the outing against Tennessee, Wahl allowed only three hits with two walks and struck out eight batters to move to 8-0 on the season.
The shutout was the eighth Wahl has been a part of in his career, including two as a freshman closer and three as a sophomore starter on the weekend.
This season, Wahl has taken two no decisions along with his eight wins and has posted a 1.22 ERA while holding opponents to a .183 batting average in his time on the mound. Included in his eight wins are victories over No. 12 TCU, at No. 11 Arkansas, No. 24 Texas A&M, No. 22 Alabama and the complete-game shutout of Tennessee.
He took no decision at Florida in an extra-inning win and against No. 2 Vanderbilt, despite leaving the game with the Rebels in the lead or tied in both outings.
Ole Miss will return to action on Tuesday night when the Rebels travel to face Arkansas State at 6:30 p.m. before returning home to open a three-game series with No. 24 Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night in a game televised by ESPNU.
