Ryan Rolison Named SEC Freshman of the Week
April 24, 2017

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following the best start of his career, Ole Miss baseball's Ryan Rolison was named SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Rolison was bumped up one day due to a scratch in the rotation, called upon on the day of the game, to toss 6.0 scoreless innings and earn a win over Missouri on April 22.

The southpaw was the third Rebel to earn a SEC weekly award of the year. Ryan Olenek was the SEC Player of the Week after opening weekend (February 20) and David Parkinson was named SEC Pitcher of the Week (March 13).

Rolison earned the accolades after tossing a career-high nine strikeouts, retiring 14 of the final 16 hitters he faced. He took a no-hit bid to the fifth inning, before Mizzou broke it up with one out. After tossing his seventh start, Rolison improved to 5-2 on the season.

After leading Ole Miss to a 3-1 victory over the Tigers, Rolison lowered his ERA to 1.88, best among all pitchers in the rotation and fifth among SEC pitchers. This victory set the Rebels up to take the series 2-1 improving their overall record to 25-15 (9-9 in SEC).

The Rebels will be back in action tomorrow (April 25) to battle Mississippi State in the annual Governor’s Cup. The rivalry matchup will take place at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi (April 25). First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network. Following the midweek contest, the Rebels head to Arkansas to face the No. Razorbacks (April 27-29). The first two games of the three-game set will be nationally televised on SEC Network beginning with the Thursday night series opener at 6 p.m.
