Each week here at OleMissSports.com we'll take a look at former Rebels in the Major Leagues and update Rebel fans on how the individual players (and their respective teams) are performing in a race for a pennant and ultimately a World Championship.
#8 | Chris Coghlan | OF | Miami Marlins Coghlan and the Miami Marlins continue to battle in the tough NL East in a Division currently dominated by the Atlanta Braves. Through 26 games played, the outfielder is hitting at a .183 clip with three doubles, four walks and an RBI. The Marlins are coming off a series loss to the San Diego Padres and will open a series with the Los Angeles Dodgers at 9:10 p.m. on Fox Sports - Florida. Currently, the Marlins hold a 10-25 record and at the bottom of the NL East Standings.
#2 | Zack Cozart | SS | Cincinnati Reds Cozart continues to be an offense producer for the Reds in a tight battle early this season in the NL Central with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals. The Reds are coming off a series loss to the Atlanta Braves after sweeping the Chicago Cubs, and are heading into a weekend series with the Brewers before facing off against Coghlan and the Marlins. Cozart hit a solo shot in Wednesday night's game against the Braves, his fifth of the season, and is batting at a .217 clip but at a .263 pace over the last 10 games. He has 18 runs scored and 16 RBI for the Reds, who are third in the NL East and 19-16 on the season.
#31 | Lance Lynn | RHP | St. Louis Cardinals Lance Lynn has been off to a dominant start to the season, despite taking his first loss of the year on Tuesday night in a 2-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs. The Cardinals split the two-game set and hold the top spot in the NL Central with a 21-12 record. St. Louis will start a 10-game home stand with a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. Lynn currently holds a 5-1 record on the year with a 2.72 ERA. He has struck out 47 with only 16 walks and is holding batters to a .192 batting average against this season.
#15 | Seth Smith | OF/DH | Oakland Athletics Smith and the Oakland Athletics currently hold down the second spot in the AL West with an 18-17 record and are chasing the Texas Rangers for the top spot in the Division. Smith is hitting at a .277 clip for the season with 14 runs scored and 17 RBI. He has three home runs and helped the Athletics post a series win over the New York Yankees last weekend and will close out a four-game midweek series with the Cleveland Indians tonight before facing the Seattle Mariners over the weekend.
