OMAHA, Neb. – Ole Miss third baseman Colby Bortles hit 10 home runs in the 2016 TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska Sunday night (July 3). In front of 20,428 fans, Bortles and seven more of the nation’s top sluggers helped set a record with a combined 185 homers hit throughout the event.

Hagen Owenby of East Tennessee State University took home the trophy, defeating Houston’s Joe Davis in the final round.

Just like the 2015 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby, this season’s College Home Run Derby was a timed event. Each competitor had four minutes to hit as many home runs as possible. After the first round, the top four advanced to the semifinals, while the two highest scores in the first two rounds moved on to the finals.

The 185 home runs by the collegiate sluggers broke the 2014 mark of 128 homers.
