Each week here at OleMissSports.com we'll take a look at former Rebels in the Major Leagues and update Rebel fans on how the individual players (and their respective teams) are performing in a race for a pennant and ultimately a World Championship.

8 | Chris Coghlan | OF | Miami Marlins

Coghlan has been sidelined with a lower back strain, having been placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 9. Through 51 games, he is hitting .277 (36-for-130) with nine doubles, three triples, a home run and 10 RBI. The Marlins are last place in the NL East with a 35-58 record, 18.0 games back of the division-leading Atlanta Braves, but 22-17 since May 31, tied for the second-best in the National League during that span.

2 | Zack Cozart | SS | Cincinnati Reds

Cozart hit at a .278 clip in the month of May, his best month of the first half. Through 87 games, he is hitting .233 (81-for-347) with 21 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 33 RBI. He ranks fifth among ML shortstops in doubles, tied for eighth in home runs and 10th in RBI. The Reds are third place in the NL Central with a 53-42 record, 5.0 games back of the division-leading St. Louis Cardinals.

31 | Lance Lynn | RHP | St. Louis Cardinals

Lynn's 29 wins since the start of 2012 is tied with Max Scherzer for the most in the majors. He is also just the second Cardinals pitcher to have at least 10 wins by the All-Star break in two of his first three season. For the season, he holds an 11-4 record and 4.00 ERA with 115 strikeouts against 41 walks over 19 starts (117.0 innings). He is tied for sixth in wins and tied for 20th in strikeouts. Lynn has helped carry St. Louis to a 57-36 record, the best mark in baseball, a game ahead of the second-place Pittsburgh Pirates.

13 | Drew Pomeranz | LHP | Colorado Rockies

Pomeranz made his season debut for Colorado on June 30. He holds a 0-3 record and 8.76 ERA with 11 strikeouts against 14 walks over three starts (12.1 innings). He had a 4.20 ERA and 8-1 record, with a league-leading 96 strikeouts, in 15 starts with Colorado Springs Sky Sox of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. The Rockies are third place in the NL West with a 46-50 record, 4.5 games back of the division-leading Arizona Diamondbacks.

15 | Seth Smith | OF/DH | Oakland Athletics

Smith hit at a .321 clip in the month of April before cooling off at the plate in the months of June and July. Through 77 games, he is hitting .267 (73-for-273) with 20 doubles, six home runs and 32 RBI. The .267 average is his best mark since 2011 when he hit .284 for the season as a member of the Colorado Rockies. The Athletics remain atop the AL West with a 56-39 record, the fourth-best mark in the majors, 2.0 games ahead of the Texas Rangers.
