Rebel Baseball Announces Swenson as Coordinator of Operations
Sept. 14, 2017

OXFORD, Miss.Alex Swenson, a former assistant coach at Georgetown, and student-athlete and assistant coach at Jacksonville, has joined the Rebel baseball program as the Coordinator of Operations – External Affairs.

“Ole Miss has been a place I have always wanted to be and it’s an honor to join Coach Bianco and his impressive staff,” Swenson said. “It is my priority to be relentlessly excellent in my position and add value in winning a national championship.”

Swenson, a Virginia native, most recently spent two seasons at Georgetown as the pitching and catching coach, where he helped the Hoyas to their most successful season in 32 years this past spring. Under his guidance as an assistant, Georgetown put together one of the best two-year spans in program history.

In charge of the pitching staff, Swenson guided the Hoyas to breaking the school records for strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings, as well as the record for strikeout-to-walk ratio and saves record. In 2016, the pitching staff produced the second best ERA since 1984, and the starting catcher, also under his watch, had the second-best caught stealing percentage since at least 2000. Georgetown also had three pitchers drafted during his tenure.

Prior to his stop in D.C., Swenson coached for two years at Jacksonville University following a four-year playing career with the Dolphins, where he served as team captain his final three seasons. Known as the team’s Iron Man, Swenson caught all 56 games in 2010, and a stretch of 109-of-112 games through the 2010-11 campaigns. He played in 148 total games during his career, amassing a career fielding percentage of .987, helping the Dolphins to NCAA regional berths in 2007, 2009 and 2011.

Following his collegiate career, the five-time Atlantic Sun All-Academic selection signed a professional contract with the Newark Bears of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball following tryouts with the Kansas City Royals.
