Baseball Wraps Up Opening Weekend of Practice
Sept. 19, 2017

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss baseball wrapped up its opening weekend of fall practice with the first team intrasquad, which featured highlights on both sides Sunday afternoon.

It was the Blue team that rallied in the final inning to end the scrimmage in a 3-3 tie. Team Red tallied five hits and three RBI on the afternoon, while Blue posted seven hits. Twelve pitchers got work in on Sunday, facing five batters each in the squad’s first live action of the fall.

Offensively, Tim Rowe recorded the first home run with a solo shot in his second at-bat, while Michael Fitzsimmons went 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Newcomer Michael Spears finished with the Red’s other RBI off a single, and freshman Carl Gindl also added a hit.

For Team Blue, senior Will Golsan led the way going 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored, while Trace Tyre finished 2-for-2 with an RBI. A pair of newcomers in Tim Elko and Anthony Servideo also contributed in a big way, as Elko had an RBI, and Servideo was flashy with a double in his final at-bat.

Three returners – Will Ethridge, Will Stokes and Connor Green – carried Team Red through the first three frames on the mound, as Ethridge struck out four and allowed only one hit. Strokes gave up one run off a pair of hits, while Green was effective with one strikeout and a hit.

Emanuel Fernandez, Austin Miller and Matt Myers carried Team Red through the final innings, allowing a combined three hits and two runs.

Redshirt junior Brady Feigl was on the mound for Team Blue to begin the scrimmage, striking out two with only one hit allowed. Parker Caracci followed with a solid outing (one strikeout, one hit), while Andy Pagnozzi surrendered one run off Rowe’s solo shot.

Junior college transfer Pierce Smith came out firing midway through with three strikeouts and only one walk, while Maxwell Cioffi allowed two runs off a pair of hits and two walks. Colin Coates was the final pitcher to appear for Team Blue, striking out one with three walks.

The Rebels will continue fall work with practices at Swayze Field during the week, and intrasquads at Oxford Middle School on the weekend.
