OXFORD, Miss. – Behind solid at-bats at the plate, Team Blue came out on top in both intrasquads, as the Rebel baseball team capped its third weekend of scrimmages.

Thanks to an 11-hit performance, Blue won 7-3 on Saturday, before edging the Red Team on Sunday, 8-7 with a combined 17 hits in that contest.

Behind the bats of veterans Will Golsan and Thomas Dillard, coupled with big hits from a few newcomers, the Blue squad posted three runs in the first two frames and held on for the 7-3 win. Golsan went 3-for-4 with a double and pair of singles to lead the charge, while Dillard was 2-for-3 with a 2-run shot and a single. Freshman Michael Spears had an RBI from the top of the order, while fellow freshman Tim Elko went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Trace Tyre also added an RBI from the bottom of the order.

On the mound, Brady Feigl cruised through three innings in his start with only one hit allowed, while Pierce Smith handled the middle innings allowing three runs off a pair of hits and four walks. Freshman Jordan Fowler closed it out with just one hit allowed.

On the other side, junior Nick Fortes led the way going 2-for-3 with two RBI, while sophomore Grae Kessinger added the other RBI for Team Red. Emanuel Fernandez allowed three runs in the start, Maxwell Cioffi surrendered four runs, and sophomore Will Ethridge closed it out strong with only one hit allowed.

Sunday’s scrimmage was neck-and-neck throughout as all but five players combined recorded a hit, led by 10 from Team Blue, and seven from the Red squad. Dillard again had a big day with two runs and an RBI off three hits, while freshman Anthony Servideo drove in three runs from the top of the lineup. Junior Chase Cockrell lifted a 2-run shot in the seventh inning to help Blue to the victory.

Junior college transfer Austin Miller got the start for the Blue squad and gave up four runs, while junior Connor Green worked a scoreless outing with three strikeouts and just one hit allowed. Freshman Matt Myers allowed two runs to close it out.

For Team Red, it was freshman Tyler Keenan who had a big day, launching a 3-run HR in the ninth to cap a two-hit performance. Spears collected two RBI including a leadoff home run to start the day, while Tyre also had an RBI for the Red. On the mound, Parker Caracci earned the start and allowed two runs, while junior Colin Coates and Will Stokes close out the rotation for the day.
