Friday Box Score | Sunday Box Score

OXFORD, Miss. – With just one week of scrimmages remaining until the annual Pizza Bowl, the Rebels are continuing to shine on the field in their intrasquad matchups.

This past weekend, a back-and-forth pitcher’s duel entertained fans to a 4-2 final on Friday, and on Sunday, some of the team’s veterans at the plate highlighted a 7-4 win.

On Friday, Tyler Keenan and Ryan Olenek got things going early, as each led the way with two hits, but it was Chase Cockrell who provided the spark with a two-run home run to ultimately propel Team Red to a 4-2 victory. The team’s other runs came from the bats of Tim Rowe and Keenan, who each had solo shots to round out the team’s four runs. Michael Spears, Cole Zabowski, and Golston Gillespie also contributed to the team’s win on Friday with hits of their own to bring the hit column to nine.

For Team Blue, Grae Kessinger led the push with a multi-hit game and a run, and Anthony Servideo, Will Golsan, and Thomas Dillard all contributed with hits of their own, but it was the impressive work of the Rebel pitchers that mostly stifled the bats for Team Blue.

Parker Caracci earned the start for Team Red, but it was Colin Coates and Will Stokes who closed out the game with a combined seven strikeouts and zero runs allowed in five innings pitched.

On the other side of the ball, Conner Green (two Ks) and Austin Miller (three Ks) divided up the eight-inning affair, and managed to hold Team Red to just four runs.

On Sunday, Dillard, Golsan, and Cooper Johnson lit it up for Team Red, with each providing three hits of their own, and combining for nine out of the team’s 13 hits on the day. Dillard has been on a tear throughout the entire fall and came into the game leading the team with a .476 average, and undoubtedly improved on that with his 3-for-4 day at the plate.

Keenan led the way in RBI total on the day after a three-run double, while Olenek and Johnson also went deep to account for the seven runs for Team Red.

For Team Blue, Kessinger and Tim Elko each sent balls into the trees to account for three of the team’s runs, while Bryan Seamster, Nick Fortes, and Gillespie also added a hit of their own.

On the mound, Brady Feigl has quietly been amassing one of the more impressive falls in a Rebel uniform. He continued his dominant scrimmage performance by making quick work of opposing batters, and struck out seven without giving up a hit in just four innings pitched.

Emanuel Fernandez (three Ks) and Pierce Smith (one K) came in relief and managed to close out the game for a 7-4 Red win.

For Team Blue, Jordan Fowler got the start and totaled four strikeouts. Max Cioffi (two Ks) was next in the rotation, and Will Ethridge managed to come in and close things out without giving up a run.

The Rebels will continue fall work with practices at Swayze Field during the week, and intrasquads at Oxford Middle School on the weekend. This weekend’s scrimmage schedule will be Friday night at 6 p.m., followed by Sunday’s 1 p.m. intrasquad. This weekend’s scrimmages will be the last of the fall before next Wednesday’s annual Pizza Bowl game.
