– On a day where Ole Miss baseball landed at the top of’s recruiting rankings, it was some of the bright newcomers that delivered in game two of the Pizza Bowl. Freshman Grae Kessinger recorded two clutch RBI to help lift Team Blackman to a 4-3 victory over Team Bortles Thursday at Swayze Field. The victory forces a winner-take-all game three tomorrow afternoon.

One the teammates Kessinger knocked in was Ryan Olenek, who had a big day at the plate. The sophomore went 3-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run. The captain, Tate Blackman, added a pair of hits and runs, while freshman Bryan Seamster went 2-for-2 with a walk as the team’s leadoff hitter. On the mound, freshman Greer Holston went 4.0 innings and allowed just one run on four hits.

In the loss, junior college transfer Chase Cockrell and sophomore Nick Fortes produced multi-hit games for Team Bortles. The squad recorded four doubles throughout the seven-inning game but only managed to score three runs as Holston and Andy Pagnozzi worked themselves out of jams.

With the series tied at one game apiece, tomorrow’s contest is for all of the pizza. The winner will be served pizza on the field while the losing team will earn a smooth cardio workout. First pitch between Team Bortles and Team Blackman is set for 2 p.m. at Swayze Field.
