Rebels Rout Fordham, Turn Attention To SEC Play
Jan. 4, 2013 OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Marshall Henderson scored 21 points as Ole Miss placed five players in double figures Friday night to defeat Fordham 95-68 in the final nonconference game for both teams. Reginald Buckner scored 18 points, Derrick Millinghaus had 16,Murphy Holloway 15 and Nick Williams 11 to lead a balanced attack for Ole Miss (11-2). The Rebels shot 50 percent from the field (33 of 66) and forced 22 Fordham turnovers. Ryan Canty led Fordham (4-11), of the Atlantic 10 Conference, with 15 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots. Bryan Smith andMandell Thomas added 14 and 12 points, respectively, for the Rams, who shot 38.8 percent (26 of 67) from the field. The Rams led 14-13 in the opening seven minutes before scoring runs of 10-0 and 12-0 helped Ole Miss build a 46-35 halftime lead. Fordham never seriously threatened in the second half. Ole Miss led by as many as 30 points, 91-61 with 3:22 left, after the second of two free throws by Williams. The Rebels finished 22 of 27 (81.5 percent) from the free throw line and 7 of 16 (43.8 percent) from 3-point range, including three apiece from Henderson and Millinghaus. The Rebels outrebounded Fordham 39-38, including a game-high 13 by Holloway, while Buckner blocked six shots and made three steals. Fordham's Branden Frazier and Chris Gaston, who were averaging 16.4 and 15.1 points per game, respectively, were limited to six points apiece. |
