Ole Miss Selected As No. 5 Seed In NIT

OXFORD, Miss. - After winning 20 games for the ninth time under head coach Andy Kennedy and making a run to the SEC Quarterfinals, Ole Miss was selected as a No. 5 seed in the 81st version of the NIT Sunday.

The Rebels (20-13) will travel to West Long Branch, New Jersey Tuesday to face the No. 4 seed Monmouth (27-6) in the first round of the NIT. Game time is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN3.

Tuesday’s matchup marks the first-ever meeting between the Rebels and the Hawks. The winner will advance to play the winner between No. 1 seed Syracuse and No. 8 UNC-Greensboro. If Ole Miss prevails over the Hawks, the second-round game would take place either Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday. 

The Rebels are making their 12th overall NIT appearance and sixth under head coach Andy Kennedy. Ole Miss has a 13-11 record in all NIT games, including a 7-5 mark under Kennedy. Ole Miss has advanced to two NIT Final Fours - 2008 and 2010 - under Kennedy.
