OXFORD, Miss. – As part of Ole Miss’ Homecoming festivities,the Rebel men’s and women’s basketball teams will partner with the City of Oxford to host Square Jam on The Square Friday, October 12 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Square Jam will start after the Homecoming parade ends at 6:15 p.m. on The Oxford Square. The Homecoming parade will start at The Grove at 5:30 p.m.
A basketball court and lights will be set up on the east side of The Square in the parking lot in front of City Hall. Fans will get to see the teams participate in a variety of skills competitions. In addition, both teams will be signing autographs at the event, and there will be music and a DJ.
“We are very excited about the upcoming basketball season, and this event will serve as a great jump off for the year,” men’s basketball coach Andy Kennedy. “I hope all the Rebel fans will come out to support this team.”
“What a great night for the fans of Ole Miss,” women’s basketball coach Adrian Wiggins said. “A Homecoming weekend full of men’s and women’s basketball and football on The Square. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Friday night.”
“Ole Miss is very excited to partner with the City of Oxford for this one-of-a kind event that will serve as a tipoff to a great hoops season,” Athletics Director Ross Bjork said. “This gives us the opportunity to showcase our basketball programs to fans in the greatest college town in America. I would especially like to thank Oxford Mayor Pat Patterson for his help making this event possible.”
Friday’s Square Jam coincides with the official start of men’s basketball preseason practice. The team will be signing autographs in Rebel Fanfare prior to Saturday's Texas A&M football game starting at 4 p.m. The women will be in the Fanfare prior to the Auburn football game on Oct. 13.
The men’s and women’s teams will open the 2012-13 regular season with a doubleheader on Nov. 9. The women will host SELA at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m. versus Mississippi Valley State.
