OXFORD, Miss. – As part of Ole Miss’ Homecoming Festivities, the Rebel men’s and women’s basketball teams will partner with the City of Oxford to host the second annual Square Jam, on the Square Friday (Oct. 25) from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Square Jam will begin after the Homecoming parade ends at 6:15 p.m. on the Square. The parade will begin at 5:30 at The Grove.

For the second year, a basketball court and lights will be set up on the east side of the Square in the parking lot in front of City Hall.  Fans will get to see the teams participate in a variety of skill competitions including a game of knockout, a three-point shooting contest and other surprises. In addition, both teams will be signing autographs at the event.

Square Jam was a smashing success last year. In front of approximately 3,000 Rebel fans the Ole Miss men’s and women’s teams entertained the crowd with contests including a three-point shootout, a game of basketball knockout and a slam dunk contest.

Slam dunk contest winner, Aaron Jones brought the crowd to its feet after picking a member out of the crowd to dunk over, which sent him to the championship round where he was eventually crowned the winner.  The evening closed with the team signing autographs and meeting with fans.

“We are very excited about the upcoming basketball season, and this event will serve as a great jump off for the year,” said head men’s coach Andy Kennedy.” I hope all the Rebel fans will come out to support this team.”

“This will be a great night for Ole Miss,” head women’s basketball coach Matt Insell said. “Adding in some basketball to Homecoming festivities on the Square will be a treat for the fans. We’re looking forward to it being a great success.”

The men’s and women’s teams open the 2013-14 regular season with a doubleheader on Nov. 8. The women will host Jacksonville State at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m. versus Troy.
