• Ole Miss faces Kansas State Thursday night in the inaugural Big 12/SEC Challenge. TOURNEY CHAMPS Ole Miss claimed the Barclays Center Classic championship with a 79-76 victory over Penn State. It marked the second exempted tournament title for the Rebels, joining the 2007 San Juan Shootout, under head coach Andy Kennedy, who improved to 19-6 in exempted tournament at Ole Miss. The Rebels hit a season-high 11 3-pointers in the game, led by senior G Marshall Henderson (4) and junior G Jarvis Summers (3). The duo also lead the team in scoring with 19 points each, and Summers added 5 assists and no turnovers for Ole Miss, who improved to 8-8 all-time versus the Big Ten. BLOCK PARTY Ole Miss ranks first the SEC, and fourth in the nation, averaging 8.3 blocks per game and have blocked 45 shots over the last five games. Junior F Aaron Jones is ranks third in the league averaging 3.0 blocked shots per game, while senior C Demarco Cox and sophomore F Anthony Perez are both tied for seventh averaging 1.3 blocked shots per game. REBELS BURY GEORGIA TECH Sophomore G Derrick Millinghaus poured in 16 points and Junior C Demarco Cox posted his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 boards as Ole Miss downed Georgia Tech 77-67 to advance to the championship game of the Barclays Center Classic. Senior G Marshall Henderson added 15 points for the Rebels, which improved to 5-0 this season. Ole Miss took control with an 18-7 run spanning 6:08 in the first half. Henderson started the run with consecutive three pointers, and he later added a third made three. The Rebels held the Yellow jackets to 20.6 percent shooting in the first half, forced 12 turnovers in the game and blocked 10 shots. SCOUTING THE WILDCATS Kansas State is 4-3 on the young season after knocking off Central Arkansas 87-54 at home Sunday. The Wildcats also have a win against Oral Roberts and a pair of wins over Long Beach State. KSU has losses to North Colorado to open the season, and to Charlotte and Georgetown in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Freshman Marcus Foster leads the team averaging 13.9 points per game for a squad that averages just 66.1 ppg, while sophomore D.J. Johnson paces the Wildcats with 5.6 rebounds per game. Kansas State has been limited to 63 or fewer points in four games this season and are just 1-3 in those contests. The Wildcats are shooting just 26.6 percent from behind the arc this season, but are limiting opponents to 27.1 percent from 3. POWER CONFERENCE SWEEP A win over Kansas State would give Ole Miss wins over ACC (Georgia Tech), Big Ten (Penn State) and Big 12 opponents in same season for the first time in school history. It would also give the Rebels victories over teams from three different BCS conferences for the first time since 2011-12 when Ole Miss earned wins over the ACC (Miami), Big East (DePaul) and Big Ten (Penn State). OLE MISS-KANSAS STATE SERIES Ole Miss is a perfect 3-0 all-time against the Wildcats, defeating Kansas State in 2000, ‘01 and ‘09. Most recently the Rebels knocked off the Wildcats 86-74 in Puerto Rico as part of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Ole Miss is 1-0 all-time in Manhattan after defeating K-State 67-65 in 2001. REBELS AMONG SEC CAREER LEADERS Three Rebels rank among the SEC’s active career leaders as senior G Marshall Henderson ranks sixth among active players with 798 career points, while junior G Jarvis Summers is third among active players in assists (265) and seventh in points scored (757). Junior F Aaron Jones is tied for fourth among active players with 70 career blocks. REBELS VERSUS BIG 12 Ole Miss is 16-17 all-time versus current members of the Big 12, having faced every current member. The Rebels have faced Texas most often, owning a 6-8 record against the Longhorns. DEFENSE SPURS ROUT OF AGGIES Ole Miss allowed just 17 second-half points and limited North Carolina A&T to just 25.5-percent shooting from the field for the game in the Rebels’ 84-50 victory on Tuesday. Junior F Aaron Jones notched his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. OFFENSIVE OUTBURST VERSUS VALLEY Ole Miss scored its most points in 15 years and six Rebels scored in double figures in the 111-82 win over Mississippi Valley. Junior C Demarco Cox posted career highs with 15 points and 12 rebounds for his second career double-double and sophomore G Derrick Millinghaus led all scorers with a career-high 21 points. COASTAL COMEBACK Sophomore F Anthony Perez hit a pair of free throws with 4.4 seconds remaining to push Ole Miss past Coastal Carolina 72-70. Senior G Marshall Henderson had 19 points, including 14 in the second half as the Rebels overcame a two-point halftime deficit. Junior G Jarvis Summers scored 14 points and dished out 5 assists, and Derrick Millinghaus chipped in 12 points for the Rebels. SEASON-OPENING WIN Junior G Jarvis Summers scored a career-high 28 points as Ole Miss coasted past Troy 69-54 in the season opener. Summers was 9 of 11 from the field in the first half, including three shots from three-point range as the Rebels built an insurmountable 39-26 halftime lead. Derrick Millinghaus added 13 points, 10 in the second half, as Ole Miss controlled the season opener for both schools. The Rebels out-rebounded Troy 53-38 with junior F Aaron Jones pulling down a game-high 13. Ole Miss won its 10th straight season opener and have won 17 of 18 home openers. DEFENDING HOME COURT Winning at home has been a trademark of Andy Kennedy’s squads since he took the reins in 2006-07. Ole Miss is 103-19 (.844 win pct.) in games played at Tad Smith Coliseum during Kennedy’s tenure, including a 3-0 record this season. The Rebels are currently on a 23 game non-conference home winning streak dating back to 2010. Ole Miss has won 234 of its last 285 games (.821 win pct.) in Oxford dating back to the 1995-96 campaign. The Rebels have an all-time record of 467-198 (.702 win pct.) at Tad Smith Coliseum, which opened in 1965-66. HENDERSON SETS 3-POINT RECORDS In his first season in Oxford, senior G Marshall Henderson climbed to the top of the 3-pointer season charts, as he ranks first on the Ole Miss single-season list for 3-point field goal attempts (394) and 3-pointers made (138). Henderson ranks first in NCAA history for attempts in one season broke the SEC for 3-pointers made in a single season. The senior has hit a 3-pointer in every game in his career and ranks first in the SEC and 12th in the nation averaging 3.6 3-pointers made per game. REMEMBER NOVEMBER In seven seasons under head coach Andy Kennedy, Ole Miss has racked up a 41-6 record in November games, including a 6-0 mark this year. BIG SHOES TO FILL Ole Miss must replace three full-time starters from last year’s squad (Reginald Buckner – 36, Murphy Holloway – 35 and Nick Williams – 24) that started a combined 95 games last season and boasted 292 career starts. The Rebels must say goodbye to the school’s all-time leading rebounder in Murphy Holloway (1,093 career boards) and all-time blocked shots leader in Reginald Buckner (326 career blocked shots). NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS The Rebels boast an 93-24 record (.795 win pct.) against teams outside the SEC since Andy Kennedy took over in 2006-07, including a 62-2 mark at home. The Rebels are 6-0 versus non-conference competition this season including a 3-0 mark at home. 70 USUALLY MEANS W ... Ole Miss posted a 20-4 mark last season when scoring 70-plus points and were just 7-5 when scoring fewer than 70. Ole Miss ranked 10th in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 77.2 ppg last year and led the SEC in scoring for the first time in school history. KENNEDY’S FIRST SEVEN YEARS RANK AMONG ALL-TIME SEC GREATS Head coach Andy Kennedy moved passed Billy Donovan and Rick Stansbury for the fourth-most wins by a head coach in their first seven years in the league at one school.
