Mackey Leads Red Team To Second-Half Comeback

OXFORD, Miss. - Led by quarterback Randall Mackey, the Red team rallied in the second half of the 2011 BancorpSouth Grove Bowl to tie the Blue team 17-17 on Saturday afternoon. 

With the Red team trailing 17-7 at the half, they battled back to tie the game at 17-17.

The Blue team had a chance to win the game late with a 44-yard field goal from Andrew Ritter, but his attempt was wide left. 

On his first drive of the afternoon, quarterback Randall Mackey found Terrell Grant for a 14-yard touchdown to put the Red team up 7-0 in the first quarter. 

The Blue team tied the game at 7-7 in the first quarter as Barry Brunetti found Ja-Mes Logan for a five-yard touchdown pass. Brunetti found Korvic Neat for a 90-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter as the Blue team went up 14-7.

A 23-yard field goal from Ritter gave the Blue team a 17-7 lead just before the half.

The Red team's Bryson Rose kicked a 22-yard field goal in the third quarter to bring the Red team to within a touchdown, 17-10.  The Red team tied the game at 17-17 after a one-yard touchdown run from Devin Thomas in the fourth quarter.

Brunetti ended the game 12-of-21 (211 yards and two touchdowns) for the Blue team while Mackey finished the game 9-of-18 (151 yards and one touchdown).

Thomas rushed for 92 yards on 17 carried and scored a touchdown for the Red team, while Enrique Davis rushed seven times for 29 yards for the Blue team. Vincent Sanders recorded four catches for 96 yards for the Blue team, while Terrell Grant caught four passes for 61 yards for the Red team.

The Blue team's Brishen Mathews and Josh Lancaster each recorded eight tackles, while Joshua Shipp recorded six to lead the Red team. 

The game was played with four 12-minute quarters with a running clock in the second half.

Today's game, which drew an estimated crowd of 28,000, marked the conclusion of spring practice. The Rebels open the 2011 season at home on September 3 when Ole Miss hosts BYU.
