Postgame Quotes

Ole Miss Head Coach Hugh Freeze
Opening statement...
“Obviously, we’re very disappointed and hurting in that locker room right now. Those seniors, especially,
who are helping us start the foundation here. There’s just a lot of hurt and disappointment right now.
Certainly this is a tough profession, and it’s really tough when you see kids that you care about hurt and
their coaches and families. The bottom line is they scored touchdowns and we scored field goals, and
they’re a good football team. They didn’t quit. They didn’t panic. I give them credit. We’ve got to score
touchdowns when we get in the red zone, and we just didn’t.”

On problems with tonight’s performance...
“They went man coverage on us pretty much every time, and we struggled to protect tonight. We’ve got
to win some one-on-ones. I thought some of them were bad calls and some of them we may have read
the wrong side. Other plays we didn’t protect well, so it was kind of a mixture. I’ll have to watch the film
to see, but we certainly struggled down there.”

On number of passing yards versus rushing yards...
“They’re run-blitzing us. If we throw for 400, it’s a good night. We have to take what they give us. I mean we tried. We certainly tried, but it was heavy. Seventy-eight percent, I bet, was run-blitzing.”

Ole Miss Player Quotes
QB Bo Wallace
On his performance...
“The stats probably look good, but there were a couple of times when we were in the red-zone where
we could have punched it in, and maybe I made a bad decision or something like that, so it’s a tough
loss.”

On what he needs to focus on to close games out and improve going forward...
“We need to finish. We have to finish games. When we have a team up like that, and we get in the redzone we have to score touchdowns. We can’t settle for field goals anymore.”

On looking ahead...
“I’m looking forward to getting back out there next week and getting this bad taste out of my mouth.
We’ll be ready to play next week.”

LB Denzel Nkemdiche
On losing the momentum gained earlier in the game...
"I don’t know. I just honestly don’t know."

On what they're going to do to prepare for LSU next week...
"We have to come in tomorrow with a lot of intensity at practice and get ready for a tough game."

Vanderbilt Head Coach James Franklin
Opening statement...
“Couldn’t be more proud of my guys, we are 1-0 this week.”

On how they were able to stop the Ole Miss rushing attack...
“We go into it every week with the mentality that the first thing you have to do is stop the run. I thought
they did a nice job of play action off of it.”

On the 27-yard touchdown pass by Jordan Rodgers...
“We were running our two minute offense and Jordan called one of our base routes. Football is about
execution and tonight we just executed.”

Vanderbilt Players
QB Jordan Rodgers
On the last drive...
“That’s what we want to do, we want to get me outside of the pocket, just in case we didn’t have a look.
We were trying to throw a short one to Matthews or maybe hit Krause in the corner. They got some
pressure on the edge. It was a lot closer than I wanted it to be, but the O-line played unbelievable.
We’ve been working on emphasizing the two-minute drill in practice, and the last couple of weeks we’ve
been getting down and scoring, so it’s good to see that translate to real-life game situations.”

WR Chris Boyd
On coming back in the second half...
“We didn’t have any doubt at all. We knew we didn’t play very well in the first half, so we knew as long
as we did what we were supposed to do, we would fix what happened. It’s all about how mentally tough
we are. We came out in the second half much more mentally prepared, and it paid off.”
