Ole Miss Football Postgame Quotes
Vaught-Hemingway Stadium – Oxford, Miss.
Nov. 16, 2013

Head Coach Hugh Freeze

On the game…
“I’m excited about how our kids performed. We executed fairly well. We had a couple of explosive plays we gave up early and a few too many penalties, but we settled in after that and played really well. It’s always exciting to see those young kids get in. They deserve to play, and we are glad we were able to do that.”

On Robert Nkemdiche…
“I didn’t see any signs today that the injury was hampering him. It appeared he played one of his better games.”

On offense…
“You always want to be more efficient, but I’m certainly not disappointed. Today we were at a good pace. We had 93 plays and really didn’t go fast in the second half. I’m pleased, but we are playing a very good defensive team next Saturday night.”

On Missouri…
“The speed of their edge is tremendous. They are very sound and athletic on the backend. Their front is as good as we’ve faced athletically, particularly on the end.”

Ole Miss Players

#38 Mike Marry, LB
On the game…
“This was a big win for us. It was win No. 7, which is an improvement on last year. That is all we try to do week in and week out, is improve.”

On his last home game next week…
“It’s going to feel weird, this being my last home game. We have to go out with a win with it being my last game in Vaught Hemingway Stadium. It will be a very special and emotional game.”

#14 Serderius Bryant, LB
On the win…
“It was a great game. I don’t think the defense as a whole played their best game in the first half. The second half we came out and dominated.”

On Missouri…
“We just have to go out there and play with a chip on our shoulder. It is our biggest game because it is our next game. As long as we execute I feel like we have the athletes to compete with anybody in the country.”

#14 Bo Wallace, QB
On the game…
“We were able to go out there and take care of business and get some of the young guys in there. They did a good job too, really proud of them.”

On offensive success…
“We have some good backs and wide receivers, and they made some good plays for us.”

On Treadwell’s reception for TD…
“I think he broke four or five tackles. He is just a physical kid and if you get him the ball he can do a lot with it.”

Troy Head Coach Larry Blakeney

On the game…
“It was a pretty good demonstration of an SEC school that’s pretty talented. I certainly think Hugh Freeze has it headed in the right direction with what he demonstrated to us today.

“I certainly would have liked to have done better. Some cases we were overmatched up front in their movement as much as their size on the defensive side.

“Sometimes it’s unbelievable how inept we are on third downs. They could outrun you. It started early and stayed late as far as their receivers making plays on third downs.”

On regrouping…
“If these guys are what I think they are and if their coaches are what I think they are, there’s a lot of resiliency there. We will talk a little bit tomorrow and give them off Monday and we’ll go back to work next week to try to get ahead on our game plan for Texas State.”

Troy Players

#32, Brandon Burks, RB
On scoring in the game…
“It felt good. I was happy. When coach called the play, I knew it was going to happen, so I had a big smile on my face.”

On the Ole Miss defense…
“They did a lot of stunts and twists. They just had a great defensive line. We’ve been working on it, but we couldn’t do anything about it. We just had to run the ball, and that’s about it.”

#7, Chris Pickett, S
On Troy’s defensive performance…
“We gave up a lot of yards. We gave up a lot of points today. It was a bad showing, but this game doesn’t just land on one person, on one side of the ball. Offense, defense, special teams, we all have to make something happen. When the offense is doing well, it helps the defense. When the defense is going well, it helps both sides. No matter what, it’s always going to be a team game. We’re going to be defense, offense, special teams, all together as one.”

#35, Mark Wilson, LB
On third-down conversions…
“That’s been the story of our season, not being able to get off the field on third downs. It was frustrating, but we can’t do anything but keep fighting.”

On facing an SEC team…
“It’s tough, but I enjoy the challenge. We really can’t do anything but learn from it, move on, and try to get better.”
