BLOG: Format For BancorpSouth Grove Bowl

OXFORD, Miss. – In addition to free admission, some new wrinkles are planned for this year’s edition of the BancorpSouth Grove Bowl, which kicks off Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.

Due to the Rebels’ countless injuries, particularly along the offensive line, the competition will take on a practice format that features offense vs. defense in scrimmage periods separated by periods of regular practice drills. While there will be no score at the conclusion, there will be an overtime period at the end that will determine if the offense or the defense is the victorious unit.

To enhance the fan’s experience, the videoboard presentation will showcase several special features, including the unveiling of the Rebels’ uniform modifications for the 2013 season. There will also be interviews with special guests on the sideline, courtesy of CSS, who is televising the game live.

Among the expected guests are many former Rebels that have gone on to NFL success, including Dexter McCluster, Ken Lucas, Jeff Herrod and more. They will be part of the on-field presentations along with the SEC Champion Ole Miss men’s basketball team, which will be signing autographs during tailgating festivities in The Grove at 11:30 a.m.

Also Saturday morning is the Chucky Mullins Courage Award Ceremony, which is now sold out. One change for the breakfast, featured former award winner Nate Wayne had to unfortunately cancel and is expected to be replaced in the program by 1999 recipient Ronnie Heard. Attire for the event is business casual.
