July 20, 2018

NEW YORK – Ole Miss' Dawson Knox was named to the preseason watch list for the 2018 John Mackey Award, which recognizes the top tight end in college football, the Friends of John Mackey announced on Friday.

NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.

The junior from Brentwood, Tennessee, hauled in 24 catches in 2017 and ranked second among tight ends with 321 receiving yards.

Know, a preseason All-SEC selection from Phil Steele, was a 2017 nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy, which is awarded to college football’s top player who began his career as a walk-on.

The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2018 Mackey Award recipient will be announced on Dec. 5, 2018 and then presented live on Dec. 6, 2018 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.

Ole Miss will kick off the 2018 season vs. Texas Tech in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff, in Houston, on Sept. 1. Kick is slated for 11 a.m. and will be televised on ESPN.
