OXFORD, Miss. – The life and influence of Chucky Mullins will be celebrated during the Ole Miss-Memphis football game weekend (Sept. 27) as part of the M-Club Hall of Fame induction ceremonies on campus.

The late Mullins died in 1991 after a paralyzing hit on the football field in 1989, and on the 25th anniversary of his injury, all Chucky Mullins Courage Award winners are being invited back to campus for the festivities.

“We’re going to call the weekend, ‘It’s Time,’ in celebration of the life and spirit of Chucky Mullins,” said Ole Miss Athletics Director Ross Bjork. “We’re excited about this. It’s a great way to remember him during the 25th year after his accident. We’re proud to continue his spirit here at the University of Mississippi.”

Mullins is being honored with the renaming of Coliseum Drive on the Ole Miss campus. The new name of the road, which connects Highway 6 with campus, is Chucky Mullins Drive, and a dedication ceremony will take place Friday, Sept. 26 at 2:30 p.m., at the Robert C. Khayat Law Center.

In addition, Mullins headlines a group of six outstanding individuals that will be inducted into the M-Club Hall of Fame, including Julie Link Clark (volleyball, 1983-86), Armintie Price Herrington (basketball, 2003-07), Burney Hutchinson (baseball, 1999-2002), Ken Lucas (football, 1997-99) and Chip Sullivan (golf, 1984-86).

The M-Club Alumni Chapter will also recognize former football player Larry Johnson (1961-63) with its Lotterhos Service Award. Established in 2008, this award is based on leadership, dedication, service and commitment to the M-Club.

The Chapter will host the annual M-Club Hall of Fame and Service Award Reception and Banquet for this year’s recipients on Friday, Sept. 26. The event will be held at The Inn at Ole Miss in the Gertrude C. Ford Ballroom. The reception begins at 6 p.m., with dinner to follow at 7 p.m.

Seating is limited and reservations are required. Please make your reservation by Sept. 19, via the Alumni Association’s website, www.olemissalumni.com/events.

The Hall of Fame recipients, along with former Chucky Mullins Courage Award winners, will be distinguished the next day at the Memphis game. The Rebel football team will honor Mullins’ memory by wearing his number 38 on its helmets.

As part of the weekend, funds will be raised for the Chucky Mullins Scholarship, which is awarded each year to students who either have a physical handicap or who have exceptional financial need. Over the last 10 years, 130 students have received the award.
