OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss coaches and players met with the largest crowd of fans ever to attend "Meet the Rebels" day on Saturday at the Indoor Practice Facility on campus.

The football team, along with the soccer, volleyball and rifle teams and spirit squads, met with more than 5,000 fans and signed autographs. Fans were also able to pick up schedule posters and buy Ole Miss merchandise, while there were kids' activities and speeches by head football coach Hugh Freeze, athletics director Ross Bjork and other coaches and administrators.

Before the fans arrived, the football team scrimmaged for two hours on the practice field next to the IPF. Freeze was pleased with the energy and effort displayed by the Rebels during their second scrimmage of fall camp.

"I really liked it today, really enjoyed it," Freeze said. "I thought our kids responded extremely well to 18 straight days of practice. The energy was tremendous. It was very competitive."

Among the players that Freeze said stood out during the scrimmage were freshman wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, sophomore cornerback Anthony Standifer, freshman running back Kailo Moore and senior quarterback Barry Brunetti."

Some highlights of the scrimmage were acrobatic catches by junior wide receiver Donte Moncrief and freshman wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo and big defensive stops by junior linebacker Serderius Bryant and junior safety Cody Prewitt. Other players who had first-down or touchdown catches included senior wide receivers Ja-Mes Logan and Jordan Holder, freshman tight end Evan Engram and Moore.

Freshman Laremy Tunsil earned first-team reps at left tackle with senior Emmanuel McCray out due to a family issue.

A Rebel team that has been banged up throughout the preseason suffered no new injuries on Saturday and also saw the return of freshman defensive end Robert Nkemdiche, sophomore defensive tackle Issac Gross and senior cornerback Charles Sawyer to the practice field. Junior defensive end C.J. Johnson and senior offensive lineman Patrick Junen are expected back on Monday.

Freeze anticipates most of the banged-up players to be available for the season opener. He said junior cornerback Senquez Golson might miss some more time.

The team will begin game-planning for Vanderbilt on Tuesday.

"It's time to turn our attention to doing what we know that (the younger players, like Engram) can do, that they know what to do. (Engram) won't know all the how-to-do things against all the looks you can see at this level, but we've got to make sure he knows what to do. We'll get them ready with the gameplan starting next week."

The Rebels are less than two weeks away from the season opener in Nashville on Thursday, Aug. 29. The game will be televised by ESPN with an 8:15 p.m. CT kickoff.

Ole Miss hosts Southeast Missouri the next weekend in the home opener on Sept. 7. For Ole Miss gameday information or to buy season tickets, visit the Rebels' gameday site, OleMissFB.com, or call 888-REB-TKTS (732-8587).
