OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss football team held its second preseason scrimmage Saturday morning in front of about 4,000 fans at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

The running backs continued to impress Head Coach Hugh Freeze Saturday morning.

"We weren't bad. I'd like to watch the film. To finish up what we've put them through for two straight weeks it was pretty sound," said Freeze. "We had some good lanes for quarterback runs. I continue to be impressed with the running backs."

Highlighted by freshman running back I'Tavius Mathers' three-touchdown performance, Freeze was pleased with the play of his young backs Saturday morning.

"I'm crazy about our two young backs," said Freeze. "Jaylen (Walton) and I'Tavius are phenomenal competitors. They have not missed a snap of fall camp. They have been beat on and hit and they bounce back up after every one."

Mathers' scored on runs of 58, eight and two yards. His two-yard touchdown run was set up by a 25-yard rush by running back Randall Mackey. Walton added a 20-yard run of his own during the scrimmage.

Bo Wallace scored on a touchdown run of about 12 yards after being set up by completions from Jordan Holder, Justin Bigham, Nicholas Parker and Cody Core. Nathan Noble made the extra point to end the drive.

"I thought the quarterbacks played ok," Freeze said. "There were a couple of things I was not happy with, but they were a little more consistent today."

Quarterback Barry Brunetti completed passes to receiver Donte Moncrief and receiver Ja'Mes Logan to set up at 41-yard field goal by Bryson Rose. Wallace found Moncrief on a 20-yard pass that resulted in a touchdown.

Brunetti connected with Moncrief on a 5-yard pass that resulted in a touchdown.

"Moncrief had a beautiful catch in the red zone which was big for us," Freeze said.

Quarterback Maikhail Miller completed a touchdown pass to Jeremy Reed.

On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Ralph Williams recorded a sack on Brunetti while Cody Prewitt intercepted a Wallace pass to return it 100 yards for a touchdown.

A crowd of about 5,000 turned out for Ole Miss' annual Meet the Rebels day after the scrimmage in the Indoor Practice Facility. Fans got a chance to meet the football, soccer and volleyball teams and get autographs and pictures.
