OXFORD, Miss. – With the season opener just one week away, the Ole Miss Rebel football team took the field inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for a dress rehearsal Thursday evening.

The rehearsal broke down all of the basics of pre-game, including dressing, getting taped and stretching in the locker room. The team worked from a standard gameday timing sheet and practiced locker room etiquette and fulfilling pre-game duties, as well as substitutions and injury situations once on the field.

“We certainly went over every possible situation,” said Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze. “We had no substitution issues, whether the execution was there, I don’t know. Everything was clean on the sideline. The special team substitutions were good. We went over every situation in the game of football I could think of.”

While Freeze was pleased with the rehearsal, he was not happy with the effort given during the Rebels’ practice.

“I thought it was sluggish. When you say stay up and take care of yourself, the kids hear walk-through. I was looking for a something more than a walk-through, but there was probably no pleasing me tonight.”

With the Rebels’ just seven days away from the season opener, Freeze said senior Barry Brunetti had locked up the backup quarterback heading into the season.

“Going into the season, Barry is the No. 2 quarterback. Should an occasion arise that we have to play our No. 2 to win or lose a game, Barry would get that opportunity. What he does with that will determine where we go from there. He is the senior and you certainly hope he would get the job done. He has had good practices and we hope that will continue.”

The Aug. 29 game versus Vanderbilt will be televised by ESPN with an 8:15 p.m. CT kickoff.

Ole Miss hosts Southeast Missouri in the home opener on Sept. 7. For Ole Miss gameday information or to buy season tickets, visit the Rebels’ gameday site, OleMissFB.com, or call 888-REB-TKTS (732-8587).
