Preseason Report 08.31: Fall Camp Finally Coming to a Close
Aug. 31, 2016

By Dylan Edwards,

OXFORD, Miss. - Fall camp can be long and monotonous, but it’s finally drawing to close. In just a few days, the Rebels take the field in the highly anticipated Labor Day showdown with No. 4 Florida State.

“By the time the third week of camp rolls around everybody’s itching to do something different than what you’ve been done every day for a while,” Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze said. “Everybody’s excited about the opportunity that’s ahead of us and ready for it to get here.”

Ole Miss defensive end Fadol Brown was able to practice today after receiving treatment for his foot last week, which was good news for the Rebels. Freeze hopes to get “20 to 30 good snaps” out of Brown against Florida State.

“He looked good today,” Freeze said. “We’ll see how tomorrow feels. That’s usually the real test, but I’m pretty confident he’ll give it a go.”

The Rebels have finished preparation for the Seminoles, and only have a couple more days of practice left before it’s time for kickoff.

“We’ve gotten everything covered that we wanted to get covered,” Freeze said. “We’ll have two Thursday practices on Friday and Saturday. Tomorrow will just be weights and stretching and rehab to get ‘em kind of back on their feet.”

The Monday kickoff doesn’t chance much from a preparation standpoint for game one, but it does make the turnaround for game two and Wofford’s triple attack difficult.

“It’s going to be a challenge next week,” Freeze said. “You’ve got to give a day off a week, and Tuesday’s going to have to be their off-day. You’ve got three days before you play an offense that you’re not quite used to defending.”

Ole Miss and Florida State kick off at 7 p.m. CT on Monday, September 5. ESPN will also hold a pregame show in Orlando an hour before kickoff.
