D.T. Shackelford Is SEC Community Service Team Player Of The Week

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss senior linebacker/defensive end D.T. Shackelford is the Southeastern Conference Football Community Service Team Player of the Week.

Shackelford’s service in the community includes: serving as a group leader for a 2013 spring break mission trip to Panama; spent his 2011 summer as a pre-college program counselor for Ole Miss’ Division of Outreach and Continuing Education and other counseling groups; has volunteered with Relay for Life, Reading with the Rebels, the Oxford Food Pantry and a dunking booth that raised funds for cancer patients; featured speaker for this year’s 9/11 run, hosted by Ole Miss ROTC and the local National Guard; member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., with whom he has also participated in a number of service activities.

A native of Decatur, Ala., he was a 2010 and 2013 nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy, which honors exemplary community service with outstanding academic and athletic achievement, as well as a 2013 nominee for the AFCA Good Works Team.

Shackelford is on the watch list for the 2013 Lott IMPACT Trophy, which honors a defensive player who has made the biggest impact on his team both on and off the field.

He graduated from the University of Mississippi in three years with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in English and is expected to complete his master’s degree in education next year. In addition, he is a four-time selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and a semifinalist for the 2013 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award.

Shackelford was named the 2011 winner of the prestigious Chucky Mullins Courage Award, which is presented annually to an Ole Miss upperclassman defensive player that embodies the spirit of the late Mullins - courage, leadership, perseverance and determination.
