No. 22 Ole Miss will look to rebound from last week and retain the Magnolia Bowl trophy as the Rebels travel to Baton Rouge to face off against No. 23 LSU in one of college football’s most prestigious rivalries.

“This one I know means a lot to our people,” Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze said. “We educated our young kids on the history of it this week and hopefully get them prepared to go and play in another hostile environment and to play better than we did last week.”

The game marks Ole Miss’ fifth ranked opponent of the season, the most of any team in the country. The Rebels are looking to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time since the 2014 season.

“I think we are playing one of the better teams in the country this Saturday night and it is a great opportunity,” Freeze said. “Night games, or away games in general, on the road in the SEC are all difficult.”

After a slow start to the season, LSU has been revitalized after appointing former Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron to interim head coach. The Tigers have outscored opponents 87-17 since that appointment.

“Offensively, they are different right now,” Freeze said. “They are very multiple. They give you a lot of different sets, staying balanced, using the skill at receiver; whether it is through speed sweeps or quick throws or shots down the field.”

Of course, it was Orgeron that gave Freeze his first opportunity in the college ranks.

“I learned a lot from him and I am very indebted for the opportunity and the time I had and the opportunities he gave me,” Freeze said. “I really don’t know my career does what it does without the opportunity that he gave me.”

When Ole Miss and LSU meet in Death Valley, it’s been a classic for the last decade. Since 2002, every game but one between the two while playing at LSU has been decided by one score. The only outlier was a 31-13 Ole Miss victory in 2008.

The game kicks off at 8 p.m., and will be televised on ESPN.
