Nov. 2, 2017

OXFORD, Miss. -- To honor the men and women who serve and have served this great nation in military service, the Ole Miss athletics department has scheduled numerous military-themed events with the University’s Veteran and Military Services as part of Warrior Week, November 6-11. The celebration will culminate at the football game against Louisiana, which kicks off at 11 a.m. CT.

Military personnel will be provided free tickets for all three Military Appreciation Games – the women’s and men’s basketball games on November 10 and the football game on November 11. Individuals with a valid military ID may pick up two tickets for each game by visiting ticket office locations at The Pavilion or Tad Smith Coliseum, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or on gameday at The Pavilion.

  • For each day of the week, a different division of the Armed Forces will be honored with their flag waving on the Circle on campus, while Ole Miss’ official social media accounts will feature content dedicated to that particular branch.
  • A commemorative Military Appreciation t-shirt will be sold at Rebel Shop locations at The Pavilion, Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and 1801 West Jackson Avenue.
  • At Friday’s basketball doubleheader, which starts at 5 p.m., various military personnel from the Ole Miss family will be honored. Also, all veterans in the crowd will be recognized with their military branch, in addition to other on-court and videoboard salutes throughout the women’s and men’s games.
  • On Saturday, Student Veterans will host a veterans’ tailgate in The Grove in conjunction with Origin Bank. Student Veterans and ROTC will also lead the Rebel football team down the Walk of Champions at approximately 8:45 a.m.
  • Student Veterans and ROTC members will serve as honorary captains, participate in the coin toss and lead the Rebels as they run onto the field, waving various military service flags.
  • The Pride of the South Marching Band will perform a special military-themed show with the Alumni Band.
  • Military branch and POW flags will fly around Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
  • Multiple recognitions honoring Ole Miss veterans and ROTC cadets will occur throughout the basketball and football games as well as videoboard messages to friends and family who are currently serving overseas or have served.

Many groups have assisted the athletics department in the organizing of Warrior Week: Origin Bank, Ole Miss Veteran and Military Services, Ole Miss Student Veterans of America, Ole Miss ROTC and the Pride of the South Marching Band.
