Evan Engram Named Mackey Award Semifinalist
Nov. 14, 2016

NEW YORK – As the nation’s leader in receiving yards and receptions among tight ends, Ole Miss senior Evan Engram was named a semifinalist for the 2016 John Mackey Award, announced Monday morning. A semifinalist for the second time in his career, Engram is one of eight players up for the award, which is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end.

Along with Engram, other semifinalists for the award include: Adam Breneman (Jr., Massachusetts), Jake Butt (Sr., Michigan), Gerald Everett (Sr., South Alabama), Cole Hikutini (Sr., Louisville), Bucky Hodges (Jr., Virginia Tech), O.J. Howard (Sr., Alabama) and Jordan Leggett (Sr., Clemson).

In his final season as a Rebel, Engram has been a focal point of the Ole Miss offense as the team’s leader in receptions and receiving yards. His 59 receptions and 824 yards lead the country’s tight ends to go along with seven touchdowns. Averaging 82.4 yards per game, Engram is the only tight end in the nation to average at least 75 receiving yards per game. The Powder Springs, Georgia, native also leads the Southeastern Conference in receiving yards, an impressive feat for a tight end.

As a four-year starter, Engram has continued to rewrite the Ole Miss record book for tight end categories. With two regular season games remaining, the two-year captain has already broken the school records for catches and receiving yards in a season by a tight end. Engram is also the all-time Ole Miss leader in receptions (156), receiving yards (2,218) and TDs (14) by a tight end.

For his career, the Rebel senior is the nation's active leader with 2,218 receiving yards. He is a three-time All-SEC selection and a 2014 All-American and John Mackey Award semifinalist.

Engram is active in the community, displaying a particular heart for those with mental and physical handicaps. He has been actively involved with Special Olympics Mississippi, the North Mississippi Regional Center and the Scott Center in Oxford. Engram is one of 10 finalists for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award due to notable achievements in community, classroom, character and competition. He is also a two-time nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and a member of the 2015 SEC Community Service Team.

The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2016 John Mackey recipient will be announced on December 7, 2016 and then presented live on December 8, 2016 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
