Kelly among 20 additions to Senior Bowl roster

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly has been added to the roster for the 2017 Reese’s Senior Bowl, it was announced Monday.

Kelly is one of 67 seniors who have now accepted invitations to the postseason all-star game that features many of the nation’s top NFL prospects. He will join Ole Miss teammate and favorite receiving target Evan Engram in Mobile, Alabama, although Kelly will be unable to play in the game while recovering from knee surgery.

Practices begin Jan. 23, and the 68th annual Reese's Senior Bowl game will be held Jan. 28, 2017 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.

ESPN2 and NFL Network will broadcast live from the practices, and NFL Network will carry the game beginning at 1:30 p.m. CT.

Kelly finished his Ole Miss career with 25 school records, including career marks for most 300-yard passing games (12) and most consecutive games with a passing touchdown (22). He is the 2016 Southeastern Conference leader with 343.3 total yards per game (seventh nationally) and 306.4 passing yards per outing (ninth in nation). A semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award and finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, he threw for 19 touchdowns with eight interceptions and rushed for another five TDs in nine games before tearing his ACL and lateral meniscus against Georgia Southern.

In 2015, Kelly led the Rebels to the Sugar Bowl for the first time since 1970 and became the first QB to guide Ole Miss to wins over Alabama, Auburn and LSU in the same season. The Buffalo, New York, native set school records with 4,042 passing yards and 4,542 total yards, which both rank third-most in a season in Southeastern Conference history.

Ole Miss has a long history of players in the Senior Bowl, dating back to 1950. Engram and Kelly will be the 97th and 98th Rebels to accept an invitation to the Senior Bowl. The most recent participants were Senquez Golson and Cody Prewitt in the 2015 game.
