2013 AP All-America Teams

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss junior Cody Prewitt has been named a first team All-America safety by the Associated Press, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Prewitt, who was previously tabbed a first team All-American by USA Today, is the 55th first team All-America selection in Ole Miss football history and the 47th individual in program history to earn the honor. The Bay Springs, Miss., native is the first Ole Miss player to earn All-America honors from the AP since Peria Jerry and Michael Oher in 2008.

The Associated Press All-America team is one of five that are used to determine consensus All-Americans. The others are the American Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News and Walter Camp Foundation. The AFCA and FWAA teams have yet to be announced.

Prewitt has also been selected to Athlon's All-America second team and honorable mention by SI.com. He has been chosen to the All-SEC first team by the AP, SEC coaches, Sporting News, ESPN.com and College Sports Madness so far.

Prewitt has started 11 of 12 games at free safety and helped Ole Miss finish the regular season with a 7-5 record and a berth in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl. Prewitt's six interceptions lead the SEC and are tied for fourth-most by any player in the country. He leads or shares the team lead with 70 tackles, six interceptions and 13 passes defended, while he also has 4.0 TFLs and two forced fumbles.

In other postseason honors, 247Sports released their True Freshman All-America teams on Monday. Safety Tony Conner, wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil made the first team, while defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche was named to the second team.

Ole Miss will face Georgia Tech on Dec. 30 at 2:15 p.m. CT on ESPN in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl. The game will take place at LP Field in Nashville, Tenn. Tickets, travel and other bowl information is available by visiting www.olemissfb.com.
