Ole Miss Golf Places Fourth At Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla.-- Paced by Troy Muller's fifth place overall finish, the Ole Miss men's golf team fired a 54-hole total of 276-272-284--832 to finish in fourth place at the Gator Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida.

The Rebels' second round score of 272 breaks the school record of 274, set at the Mississippi Intercollegiate in 1982.

The Rebels' three-round score of 832 ranks second best in school history. The record is held by the 1982-83 Rebel golf team who fired a 828 at the 1982 Mississippi Intercollegiate.

The Rebels finished 22 strokes behind tournament champion Florida, who set a tournament record with a 269-276-265--810.

Muller fired a 66-66-71--203 for a fifth place finish overall. J.J.Thompson carded a 73- 65-72--210 for a tie for 21st place. Andrew Medley and Tommy Clement tied for 32nd place. Medley, a sophomore for Jackson, Miss., fired a 69-71-72--212. Clement, a sophomore from Mobile, Ala., carded a 69-70-73--212. His opening round of 69 is a career-best. Brendan Fisher fired a 72-73-69--214 for a tie for 38th place.

Muller's score of 203 ties the record for lowest three-round score. He is tied with current Rebel assistant coach Haymes Snedeker (1996-99), Dave Pegge (1982-85), and Randy Watkins (1980-83).

Thompson's third round score of 65 is tied for fourth best in school history. He is tied with Dave Pegge (1982-85) and Lane Pippin (1997-98).

Florida's Camilo Benedetti captured medalist honors with a tournament record 66-64-66- -196.

Ole Miss will be back in action on Feb. 19-20, when they travel to Mandeville, La., to participate in the Beau Chene Collegiatem hosted by Southeastern Louisiana.
