CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico — Freshman Ben Wolcott led Ole Miss with a 3-over 74 on Sunday at the first day of the Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate in Los Cabos Mexico hosted by Southern Methodist University.

Wolcott had three birdies on the front nine and finished the day in a tie for 21st place.

Junior Blake Morris finished one shot back of Wolcott and in a tie for 27th after a 4-over 75. He carded two birdies on the day. Junior Joe Lewis finished the first round at 6-over, sophomore Forrest Gamble is 8-over and sophomore Connor Davis is 15-over.

“We got a little insecure with our swings as early as the driving range this morning,” Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross said. “It was windy and the course is really tight on every hole. The greens are really firm and fast. We are better than we showed today. We had a good practice session after the round and got some confidence back. With a good round, we can move up tomorrow.”

As a team, Ole Miss is in 11th place following a team total of 21-over 305. No. 29 SMU and No. 11 Houston lead the tournament at 4-over par. Six Southeastern Conference teams are in the field.

The second round will tee off tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
