ST. SIMMONS ISLAND, Ga. -  Junior Joe Lewis carded a 1-over 71 to lead the Ole Miss men’s golf team on the final day of the 2014 SEC Championships at Sea Island Golf and Country Club Sunday.

The Savannah, Ga., native, who tied for 43rd place, finished with a three-round score of 7-over par 217.

“It was a very frustrating week,” Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross said. “I know we tried hard, but in golf, as in any technique sports, you can try too hard and your results will get worse. Almost every player said they just didn’t make hardly any putts. Our lack of birdies was a result of that. The more we missed, the more frustrated we got and the harder we tried. This is a valuable lesson and will help our players in the future. We still have a chance at NCAA Regionals.”

As a team, the Rebels finished in 14th place, carding a three-round score of 875. No. 1 Alabama claimed the SEC Championship title.

Junior Blake Morris finished the tournament in a tie for 51st place with a three-round total of 8-over 218. Senior Tom Brown and freshman Ben Wolcott tied for 60th place, each carding a tournament score of 221. Freshman Noah West carded a 3-over 73 on the final day and tied for 67th place.

Ole Miss will now await word on a NCAA regional. The selections will be made live on the Golf Channel on May 5 beginning at 10 a.m. If the Rebels are selected, regional play will begin on May 15.
