AUSTIN, Texas – Tough condition pushed scores higher across the board in the second round, but Ole Miss remained in the top three of the team leaderboard at NCAA Austin Regional Tuesday.

The Rebels are seeking their first NCAA Championships appearance since 2001. Ole Miss battled windy conditions in the hills of Austin, but were able to secure a top-three spot headed into tomorrow’s final round. The Rebels posted a 10-over par 294 at The University of Texas Golf Club in the second round and are 8-over par for the tournament.

Ole Miss needs a top-five finish to clinch a spot in the NCAA Championships at Sugar Grove, Illinois next week. No. 11 Texas leads the field at 3-under par, while No. 4 Oklahoma State is in second at 1-under. No. 50 Iowa State trails the Rebels at 14-over and No. 26 Arizona State rounds out the top five at 15-over.

"I am proud of our guys for holding things together during the middle of our round today," said Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy. "We had it going in the wrong direction, but we really turned things around and battled down the stretch. These guys have played great in final rounds all year long and they will do the same tomorrow. There is no doubt in our minds."

Senior Ben Wolcott and sophomore Braden Thornberry are tied for fifth heading into the final round after second round scores of 1-over par 72. Thornberry started his round with five consecutive pars and wrapped up the front nine at even par. The Olive Branch, Mississippi native posted back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13 and 14 to finish 1-over on the back nine. Wolcott finished the back nine at even par and rolled in four birdies in the second round. Sophomore Josh Seiple's strong finish distanced the Rebels from fourth place No. 50 Iowa State with birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 to close out the round. The Castle Rock, Colorado native added a birdie on the 375-yard, par 4 fourth to finish 3-over on the day and is tied for 26th. Junior Kerry Sweeney pared on 13 holes to finish with a second round score of 5-over 76 and is tied for 34th place. Senior Noah West is tied for 47th place heading into tomorrow’s final round.

The Rebels are scheduled to tee off tomorrow at 8:45AM and are again paired with first place No. 11 Texas and second place No. 4 Oklahoma State. For all Ole Miss Men's golf news and information, follow the Rebels on Twitter at @OleMissMGolf, on Instagram at OleMissMGolf and on Facebook at facebook.com/OleMissMGolf.
