BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Blake Morris fired a two-round total of 9-under 135 to lead Ole Miss on the first day of the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Graeme McDowell at the Shoal Creek Golf and Country Club.
The Waterbury, Conn., native finished the day in first place and holds a one-stroke lead over William McDonald of UAB.
As a team, the Rebels are in second place, posting a score of 18-under par after two rounds. Host team UAB is in first place, finishing the day 20-under par.
“Our guys played great,” head coach Ernest Ross said. “It was a great team effort. The difference was all about confidence. We got off to a very good start. We built on this early confidence and kept going all day. I am really proud of what they showed today. We look forward to tomorrow and trying to catch UAB on their home turf. Whatever happens, it will be a great learning opportunity.”
