BATON ROUGE, La. –  Ole Miss struggled in windy conditions during the first round of the David Toms Intercollegiate hosted by LSU on Saturday, but rebounded in the second round and are in sixth place heading into tomorrow’s final round.

The Rebels fired a 22-over par 310 in the first round on Saturday, but responded with 11-over 299 in the afternoon round at the lengthy 7,578-yard University Club. Sophomore Joe Lewis led Ole Miss with a 2-under par 70 in the second round after shooting 10 over in the morning round and is currently in 19th place. Fellow sophomore Blake Morris carded a 3-over 75 in the first round and a 6-over 78 in the afternoon to finish the day tied for 20th at 7-over par.

"This was a really long, hard course and long day,” said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. “Our guys gave great effort, but we made some bad mistakes the first round that led to big numbers. We did better the second round, but still fell short of a good team effort."

Freshman Connor Davis fired a 4-over 76 in the first round and followed with a 6-over 78 in the second round to finished the day 10-over in a tie for 22nd. Junior Tom Brown turned in a 9-over 81 in the first round, but rebounded in the afternoon to shoot a 2-over 74 and is also tied for 22nd at 10-over for the day. Freshman Forrest Gamble posted a 13-over on the day after shooting a 6-over 78 in the first round and a 7-over 79 in the second round.
