OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men’s golf team will begin its spring season this Sunday with the John Hayt Invitational at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Verda, Florida.
“I’ve been excited with how the spring has been going” said Coach Ernest Ross who is in his 16th season as the Rebels Head Coach. “We need guys to step up; this will be one of the strongest fields of our whole season.”
The Rebels’ starting five will be showing the young talent of Ole Miss golf, as one junior, two sophomores and two freshman will play in the first spring tournament. The young group is led by sophomore Blake Morris, who was first on the team in stroke average during the fall, and freshman Forrest Gamble, who coach Ross believes can make an immediate impact.
“Forrest has really exceeded expectations in qualifying this spring,” said Ross.
Junior Tom Brown, sophomore Joe Lewis and freshman Connor Davis round out the five some.
The Rebels will face a tough field of UAB, No. 16 Arkansas, No. 49 UCF, No. 46 Coastal Carolina, No. 9 Duke, No. 7 Florida, Furman, Jacksonville, No. 12 LSU, Mercer, No. 29 North Florida, No. 37 North Texas, No. 26 Tennessee, and No. 32 Tulsa.
