OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's golf team returns to action April 2-3 when the Rebels host their annual home tournament, the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate at Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, Miss.
The event will begin with two rounds on Monday followed by one on Tuesday.
The 16-team field features four of Mississippi's Division I golf programs, in Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, and Jackson State. Central Florida is the highest-ranked team in the field at No. 20.
South Alabama, the winner of last year's rain-shortened event, will return to defend its tournament championship. Southeastern Louisiana's Philipp Westermann will also return to Reunion after taking medalist honors in last year's event.
"As the host team, we know there are always expectations and pressures that go with playing in your own event," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "I feel our team is on the verge of playing well. As we approach our conference championship, we know this is the time of year that can make or break your successful season."
Senior Joe David leads the Rebels with a 71.30 stroke average--good for fifth in the Southeastern Conference. David has earned eight top-25 finishes--including five in the top-10 and three in the top-five--in as many tournaments this year.
Freshman Blake Morris follows with a 73.25 stroke average. The Waterbury, Conn., native recorded his first career top-five finish two weeks ago, taking third place at the Chris Schenkel Invitational.
Joe Lewis has also posted a solid freshman campaign and currently carries a 74.04 stroke average. Lewis has earned one top-10 finish, which came at the Mason Rudolph Championship in September.
Senior Billy Brozovich has two top-20's to his credit, including a career-best third place finish at the Mason Rudolph. The Greenville, Miss. native will be playing in his final collegiate event in his home state.
This will be the fifth edition of the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate, with each having been played at Reunion.
"We are thankful to be able to play such a great course, and we appreciate Reunion's owners, staff, and members for allowing to this happen," said Ross. "We appreciate BancorpSouth for helping us bring great college golf to central Mississippi."
