OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss men’s golf team will travel to West Point, Miss., on Monday for the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship hosted by Mississippi State at the Old Waverly Golf Club.
The Old Waverly Golf Club has been a host to previous premier tournaments such as the 1999 U.S. Women’s Open, as well as previous men’s and women’s SEC Championships. The course has received many accolades including being named the top course in Mississippi by Golf Digest, and being named a top 100 course by both Golf Digest and Golfweek. The course will play at 7,088 yards for this tournament.
"We are looking to get our confidence back, and to know we can compete like we did in the fall,” said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. “We know we have skills, we have faith in our preparation, and we believe in our processes. We have to believe in ourselves a little stronger. We are letting one bad hole start a string of bad plays. I want our players to be mentally stronger."
Mississippi State will host a field of 14 teams including: Arkansas State, Cincinnati, Georgia State, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Ole Miss, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Mississippi, and UAB.
The Rebels travel to West Point for their second-straight tournament in their home state after playing host to the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate in Madison where they placed eighth. The line-up will remain the same, led by sophomores Joe Lewis and Blake Morris, freshmen Connor Davis and Forrest Gamble and junior Tom Brown.
Admission to all rounds is free. Fans can enter Old Waverly Golf Club through the Main Gate on Old Waverly Road and can access the designated parking areas for spectators by following signs.
