OXFORD, Miss.
Robert Dreyfus, a standout golfer from Meridian, Miss.,
has signed a national letter of intent to attend the
University of Mississippi beginning in the 1998-99
academic year.
"We are excited to have Robert join our
program," Head Coach Woody Cowart said. "We
feel he can come in and make a valuable contribution to
help us continue in the direction we are taking this
program."
Dreyfus, a sophomore at Meridian Community College,
earned first-team All-America honors as a freshman last
year after placing fifth at the National Junior College
Championships. He led the Eagles to five first-place
finishes and collected nine all-tournament team honors.
Individually, Dreyfus won the Northwest Ranger Shootout,
Jones Junior College Invitational, Co-Lin Invitational
and the Itawamba Invitational. Dreyfus received
All-Tournament Team honors in the Huntingdon
Invitational, Hinds Invitational, MCC Invitational and
the Region 23 Tournament.
Last fall, Dreyfus captured the John A. Logan
Invitational in Illinois. Dreyfus currently has a 73.5
stroke average with two tournaments completed this
spring. He shot a 72 at the Tyler Junior College
Invitational, and in the most recent tournament, finished
tied for 21st at the Auburn Links Invitational.
"Robert had an outstanding freshman year at MCC,
placing among the top five at nationals and winning three
tournaments," Cowart said. "He knows what it
takes to be successful and that will definitely be an
advantage coming into the Southeastern Conference."
As a junior golfer, Dreyfus attended Meridian High School
his freshman and sophomore years and then Lamar his
junior and senior years. He won back-to-back state titles
his junior and senior years.
