FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Ole Miss men’s golf signee Ben Wolcott recently captured the Ashworth Elite Series event at the Bluegrass Yacht & Country Club in Hendersonville, Tenn.
The Ashworth Elite Series on the Toyota Tennessee Golf Association Junior Tour brings together the elite junior golfers in Tennessee to see where they stack up against the best Tennessee has to offer.
Wolcott, a native of Dickson, Tenn., scorched the field by firing back to back 4-under par, 68s to finish 8-under par and win the Boys Division by nine strokes. Due to rainy weather on Saturday, round one had to be completed Sunday morning. Wolcott started where he left off on Saturday with a birdie on No. 16 and then two pars for a bogey-free round of 68 and a two-stroke lead going into round two. The afternoon round was much of the same for Wolcott, with five birdies and one bogey for another 68 and a nine-stroke victory.
“Ben Wolcott was a very good player when we evaluated him and later signed him, “said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. “He is getting better, which is vital to being a good college player. College golf is moving up a level in competition, and golfers have to work hard every day to improve. I believe he will make a strong impact here at Ole Miss.”
