Rebel Golf Adds Transfer Ben Reichert for Upcoming Season
Aug. 8, 2017

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's golf team added another piece to its talented roster Tuesday as head coach Chris Malloy announced the signing of Ben Reichert. Reichert, who played as a freshman at East Tennessee State, will be eligible to compete for the Rebels this fall.

"We are excited to welcome Ben as the newest member of our program," said Malloy. "Adding a golfer of Ben's caliber strengthens our team as we head into this upcoming season and begin our quest for another NCAA Championship."

In his first season of college golf, Reichert competed in nine tournaments for ETSU. The East Amherst, New York, native posted a 74.08 stroke average through 26 rounds, the second-lowest stroke average on the team. He shot a career-low 67 that helped him tie for 10th at the Macdonald Cup (Oct. 1-2) with a three-round total of 213 (72-67-74). Reichert also posted a top-20 finish at the season-opening Rod Myers Invitational (74-71-72=217). He competed against the Rebels in the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational (Oct. 31-November 1), placing 40th in a tournament Ole Miss won as a team. Closing out his freshman campaign, Reichert helped the Bucs to a Southern Conference Championship title and berth to an NCAA Regional.

A four-year varsity letterwinner at Williamsville North High School, Reichert became the first golfer in school history to win back-to-back ECIC (Erie County Interscholastic Conference) and Section VI championships. Moreover, Reichert also set the school record for the lowest nine-hole score by recording a 32 twice, while registering a nine-hole scoring average of 34.9 in 2014-15 and 35.16 in 2015-16. Before attending ETSU, Reichert won the 2015 N.Y.S. Junior Amateur Championship and the AJGA New Era Junior Championship. In addition to earning medalist honors, Reichert also posted runner-up finishes at the 2015 AJGA FORE Performance Junior Championship and the AJGA Junior at Talbot.

Before he makes his way to Oxford, Reichert will play in the U.S. Amateur (August 14-20). The sophomore will compete against the nation's best amateurs at The Riviera Country Club and Bel-Air Country Club, two prestigious golf courses in California, with a spot in the 2018 U.S. Open up for grabs.
