Prep Standout Wolcott Inks With Ole Miss Golf Ranked No. 1 Junior In Tennessee
Ben Wolcott
Nov. 16, 2012
OXFORD, Miss. – Prep standout Ben Wolcott, of Burns, Tenn., signed a national letter of intent to join the Ole Miss golf team, head coach Ernest Ross announced on Friday. Wolcott joins Jacob Ross in the Rebels’ 2012 signing class and both players will be eligible beginning in the 2013-14 academic year.
A standout at Dickson County High School, Wolcott earned four victories on the US Junior Golf Tour this past year, including winning the TOUR Championship. He finished in a tie for second at the Tennessee Class IAAA High School Championship last year and finished fifth in the Southern Junior this past summer in North Carolina. He also tied for first at the AJGA Music City Junior in Nashville last summer and finished 16th at the Callaway Junior World at Torrey Pines Golf Club in July.
“I am really excited to have Ben coming to Ole Miss next year,” said Ernest Ross. “He will help our team immediately. He has a rare combination of distance and great touch around the greens. He is very dedicated to the game and has aspirations of playing on the PGA TOUR one day. He comes from a great background, with his father being a former All-American at Georgia and a former PGA TOUR member himself. Ben is a great student in the classroom and our team will be stronger with him.”
Wolcott is ranked the No. 1 junior in Tennessee by the Tennessee Golf Association and has won 12 USJGT career events. He has been named the USJGT Player of the Year three times, twice in the Boys High School division, and is one of only two players in USJGT history to be named Boys High School Player of the Year twice.
