Feb. 9, 2018

CHATHAM, N.J. -- After racing through the doubles point and winning four first sets in singles, the No. 21-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team found themselves in a battle, surviving several third sets to come away with a 5-2 win against Princeton here Friday night at the Center Court Athletic Club.

Playing together for the first time this spring, Zvonimir Babic and Filip Kraljevic won at No. 2 doubles 6-0, and then Gustav Hansson and Finn Reynolds took the No. 3 court 6-1 to clinch the early lead for the Rebels.

Princeton tied the match with a straight set win on court six, but the remaining five matches all went three sets.

At No. 1 singles, Hansson, ranked No. 20, won his first set against Ryan Seggerman 6-1, but found himself in a bit of trouble after losing the second set 6-4 and trailing 4-1 in the third. He rallied and ended up winning a tiebreaker 7-6(3) to give the Rebels a 2-1 lead.

Moments later, Princeton's Damian Rodriguez finished off a three-set win against Babic at No. 3 singles to tie the match at 2-2.

Fallert also dropped his first set, but he rallied to defeat the Tigers' Davey Roberts 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, to hand the Rebels a 3-2 lead.

Senior Grey Hamilton came up big again, holding off Princeton's Luke Gamble 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to clinch the victory.

Tim Sandkaulen, ranked No. 16, finished out the scoring with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win against Kial Kaiser at No. 2 singles.

At the Net with Head Coach Toby Hansson...
"We started off great in doubles. We had good energy, returned well and served well on the fast, indoor courts. We got off to a pretty good start in singles, winning four first sets, but credit Princeton. They came back strong and pushed us to the very end. The guys did an excellent job of digging deep and finding a way to get the win. This is a great start to the road trip and good preparation for our next match against Columbia."

Next up...
The Rebels will face No. 14 Columbia Sunday at 11 a.m. CT at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center in a rematch from the first round of the ITA Kick-Off.
