Men’s Tennis Welcomes New Zealand National Champion
Jan. 18, 2018

OXFORD, Miss. – With just two days until the 2018 season opener, the Ole Miss men’s tennis team welcomes New Zealand native Finn Reynolds to the program. He will be eligible to compete for the Rebels immediately.

An excellent doubles player, Reynolds reached the 2017 Junior Australian Open Doubles Final, becoming the first male player from New Zealand to reach a junior grand slam doubles final since 1993.

Reynolds owns a career-high World Junior Ranking of No. 83 and went out with a bang in 2017, capturing the New Zealand National Singles Championship.

“We are thrilled to have Finn join us this spring,” head coach Toby Hansson said. “He is a fiery competitor who brings the energy every time he steps on the court. Finn possesses a great all-court game, a great lefty serve and really quick and soft hands. I know he can’t wait to get out there and compete for the Rebs.”

Reynolds is the second player from New Zealand to join the Rebels. James Shortall of Feilding, New Zealand, played for the Rebels from 1998-2001 and earned All-America honors in doubles in 2000.

The Rebels open the 2018 season Saturday hosting a doubleheader, beginning with Southern Mississippi at 11 a.m. and concluding with Troy at 4 p.m. Both matches will be played at the new indoor tennis center located at the southeast corner of the Manning Center on campus.
